Beaver Control

If you are having problems with beaver causing damage on your property, according to Mark Spoden with the DNR, your choices are simple.

  1. You are allowed to trap or shoot beavers on your property without a permit but they are required to notify the DNR first.

  2. A permit is required to trap on public property

  3. A permit is required to destroy a beaver dam. But if you don’t get rid of the beavers first they will rebuild it. When destroying a dam it is recommended that you do it over the course of a few days to minimize the resultant increase in flow

Permits are not hard to get and the DNR can provide a list of ‘Nuisance Beaver Trappers’ for hire if needed.

Beavers are good for the environment and unless doing damage should be left alone.
